Beginning with the year 2008, Brukenthal National Museum has been beneficiary, partner or coordinator in projects financed from international, European and Romanian trusts, as follows:

Cultural project: In Search of Sophia
Financing: The Administration of the National Cultural Fund
Period: September - November 2015
Partners: The National Archives of Romania - Sibiu County, Ruth Zenkert Initiative - The Elijah Association
Role in the project: coordinator
Scope: to promote an interdisciplinary cultural heritage material, illustrative both for building Brukenthal Museum`s collections and for Sophia von Brukenthal`s personality and activity.
Results: an outdoor and an online exhibition, the catalog of the project (published in Romanian, English and German), educational activities
Budget: 47,094 lei, from which 39,839 lei – financed by AFCN and 7,255 lei –financed by the Museum


Project: A History Not Well Known. The Locations of Commerce in the Historical Center of Sibiu

Period: August – December 2014
Scope: to increase understanding and attractiveness of Sibiu modern history among visitors and the local community

Results: The project has two main objectives: one is implementing inside the partner institutions of a system of environment management and audit in accordance with EMAS and also the EMAS registration, and on the other hand, communication with the environmental thematic in Brukenthal National Museum Art Galleries and in the Museum of Natural History.

Cultural project MAN – Museum Object

Partners: Art High School in Sibiu, Sibiu County, NGO Association for Science, Education and Environment MEROPS, Braºov, Philatelists Association of Sibiu
Period: May 1 to October 31, 2014
Results: Workshops involving 21 students from the Arts High School in Sibiu, temporary exhibition The History written in BONE, public themed lectures (The national Zooarheological heritage contribution to current nature conservation, The importance of natural history collections; August von Spiess (1864 - 1953) – 150 years from his birth), temporary philatelic exhibition, temporary exhibition MAN – The Hunter (displaying the students work accomplished during the workshops), an exhibition catalog MAN – The Hunter.
Budget: 50.115 lei, from which 36.174 is financed by AFCN.

Results: The project's objective is to simplify the life of users by helping them "navigate” inside buildings, using their smartphone, to reach their place of destination (e.g. inside a public office, a clinic, a museum, a shopping mall, etc.), providing further information available regarding queues, unforeseen change in schedule. "i-locate" also allows tracking objects and portable equipment within "indoor" spaces to improve their management and maintenance.

Organizers: UNESCO, ICOM, ICCROM, the Getty Conservation Institute in cooperation with The National Archives of the Netherlands, ICOM-SEE and MNC-ICOM.

Role in the project: beneficiary
Results: Brukenthal National Museum became the only Romanian institution owing the international credentials for issuing programs and projects in training the management of risk in respect to cultural heritage.
